Diogo Pereira,

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), the specialized entity of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), is pleased to officially welcome Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (UAE) in Morocco as a new Corporate Member. UAE’s membership strengthens IASIA’s commitment to advancing public administration education and research, further enhancing our mission to foster global standards of excellence in the field.

Located in northern Morocco, Abdelmalek Essaâdi University plays a critical role in the development of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. Established as a public institution in 1989, UAE comprises 10 faculties and 7 schools, offering a broad range of academic programs in sciences, technology, law, economics, management, humanities, and health sciences. With a student body of over 136,000 and a vibrant community of more than 4,000 doctoral researchers, the university is a key contributor to regional and national progress through research, innovation, and sustainable development initiatives.

The addition of UAE as a Corporate Member brings an important new voice to IASIA, particularly with its extensive experience in fostering international partnerships while remaining deeply engaged in regional challenges. UAE’s commitment to promoting academic excellence aligns with IASIA’s goals of strengthening public administration education and capacity-building worldwide.

IASIA congratulates Abdelmalek Essaâdi University on its membership and looks forward to UAE’s active participation in our community, as we collectively work to improve public governance research, education, and practice.

Mr Amitava Basu was a cherished colleague, mentor, and friend whose quiet generosity and readiness to help defined his presence in every professional space he entered. Within IASIA, he served with distinction as Board Member (2022–2025), Functional Vice-President for Regional and International Cooperation (2025–2028), and Co-Chair of Working Group IV on Subnational Governance and Development, bringing careful judgment, deep collegiality, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening cooperation across the global community of public administration schools and institutes. He was not only a leader but a listener: thoughtful, respectful, and always willing to make time for others, especially younger colleagues and students. His intellectual generosity and human warmth strengthened, made IASIA more inclusive, and made it more collaborative.

The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is pleased to announce the return of Dr. Marco De la Cruz, who rejoins the IIAS Secretariat as Scientific Director.
