Call for Papers: 2nd Global Urban Governance and Policy Conference

Diogo Pereira,

The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) has the pleasure to announce its role as a co-organizer of the upcoming 2nd Global Urban Governance and Policy Conference, organized by the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and the China Institute for Urban Governance Research Institute (CIUG) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

We invite researchers and practitioners from around the world to contribute to the dialogue on global urban innovation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development by submitting their papers for consideration.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

The global urban population has been steadily increasing over the past few decades, with projections indicating a further rise of 2.2 billion by 2050, according to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.

While cities offer improved living standards, they also confront pressing challenges that necessitate extensive collaboration among governments, societies, businesses, and experts. Following the inaugural Global (Chinese) Urban Governance and Policy Symposium in July 2023, cities worldwide are encountering new opportunities and challenges.

With the theme “Global Urban Innovation, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainable Development”, the key focus areas include the impact of post-pandemic economic innovation and artificial intelligence on urban societies, as well as topics such as urban governance history, innovation theories, sustainable development goals, and responses to climate change and environmental issues.

The 2nd Global Urban Governance and Policy Conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and international cooperation to address the complexities of urban governance and policy in the 21st century.

The symposium will take place in an offline-only format. The unique segments will be presented in a hybrid format. The venue for the conference will be split between Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Xuhui Campus and its Innovation District.

A significant highlight of the event is the "Dual Track" feature comprising traditional "Research Papers" and a fresh "Innovative Practice" series. Abstract submissions require participants to select one track aligned with the content of their abstract.

Here's the schedule for the conference:

  • June 28, 2024: Registration

  • June 29 and 30, 2024: Conference events
