The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is seeking a dedicated Journal Manager for the International Review of Administrative Sciences (IRAS), starting in January 2025.

About IRAS

IRAS is a Clarivate-ranked journal focused on international and comparative public administration. Since 1927, it has published high-quality research in this field, addressing global administrative challenges. The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann (Potsdam University, Germany), who, with a renewed editorial team, has established key thematic priorities:

  • Grand challenges, crisis management, and resilience
  • Digitization, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Post-New Public Management (NPM) and the Neo-Weberian State
  • Intergovernmental reforms
  • Democratic governance

Role Overview

The Journal Manager will play a key role in overseeing the publication process, maintaining high ethical standards, and supporting the growth and strategic direction of IRAS. We are looking for candidates with broad knowledge in the field, strong communication skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. While previous editorial experience is not required, a PhD in public administration and proficiency in French are considered assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the peer review process, ensuring independent, objective, and ethical reviews in line with best practices.
  • Prepare each journal issue and oversee linguistic versions, collaborating closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher.
  • Assist the Editorial Committee in developing strategies to enhance the journal’s visibility and reputation.
  • Encourage and solicit high-quality article submissions and special issue proposals in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the journal’s content and expand its reach within the academic community.
  • Support, manage, and develop other IIAS publication lines (GPM, DinA, and PGS) and a publications repository under the guidance of the Director of Research and Publications.
  • Lead marketing and communication efforts for IRAS and other IIAS publications on social media and at relevant events.

Employment Options

There are two options for employment:

  • Remote, Part-Time Basis: The successful candidate may work remotely on a service-contract basis, dedicating up to half-time hours each week.
  • Full-Time, Brussels-Based Employment: The candidate may be offered a full-time position based in Brussels, with an expanded portfolio of responsibilities.

Compensation

The annual honorarium or salary will be negotiated based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
