New Book Explores Good Governance in the Post-COVID-19 Era

Diogo Pereira,

From shifting demographics and economic fluctuations to environmental concerns, technological advancements, and the global pandemic, the need for effective governance has never been more critical. Acknowledging these complexities, the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) announces the book “Good Governance in a Post-COVID-19 World – Global Health and Economic Recovery” prepared in partnership with the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration (NCPA).

With contributions from public governance academics and practitioners worldwide, the publication presents a comprehensive and multidisciplinary examination of good governance's role in navigating the challenges of the post-COVID-19 era. It delves into intricate interplay between governmental bodies, private sectors, civil societies, and local governance structures and emphasizes the resilience that emerges when various sectors join forces.

“This book demonstrates not only that a combined horizontal and vertical governance, but also the synergies of digital and social innovation, result in higher levels of resilience for society. It is essential to know how to handle the next major pandemic”, said Professor Geert Bouckaert, from the KU Leuven Public Governance Institute.

Mr. Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Member of the Board of Trustees at Nanyang Technological University, Ambassador to Kuwait and former Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Singapore highlighted that the volume is “timely for helping us to understand the emerging trends of governance in various sectors and countries. With the impressive collection of chapters from a diverse group of academics and practitioners, this book will be of immense interest to anyone interested in multi-disciplinary perspectives on the post COVID world.”

Additionally, Dr. Arkebe Oqubay, Senior Minister in Ethiopia and Professor of Practice at SOAS University of London and University of Johannesburg acknowledged the importance of the publication, stating that “this excellent collection brings scholarly contributions on the deeply complex COVID-19 crisis that profoundly touched people’s lives across the globe and on the essential governance and leadership issues of our time. Highly recommended book for both policymakers and researchers”.
