"International Collaborative Governance"
In 2024, the annual Conference of the International Institute of Administrative Science (IIAS) will be organized jointly with the Kenya School of Government (KSG).
It will take place in the Mombasa campus of KSG on February 26-29, 2024.
It will focus on the theme of “International Collaborative Governance”. Hereby, the organizers propose to project the horizontal ethos of the collaborative governance research tradition in public administration on the international scene.
The Conference will consist of plenary sessions, panel sessions and parallel sessions on the conference theme and those brought forward by the organizers’ networks. Dr. Younes Abouyoub (United Nations) and Dr. Tom Wanyama (KSG) will act as scientific chairpersons of the Conference.
The International Institute of Administrative Sciences is a learned society in public administration established in 1930 and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. It federates ministries, schools of government, national associations, and ministries. It organizes events, publishes scientific material, provides quality assurance services for education, and fulfils advocacy function.
Kenya School of Government is a statutory body with the mandate to enhance knowledge, skills, and competencies of public officials and thereby transform the Public Service into an efficient, innovative, and expert agency in national leadership and management, policy making and implementation, service delivery, and public engagement.

The African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) is a professional organization established in 1971 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. It is the leading professional association for African public service practitioners and managers, promoting and spearheading best practice, excellence and professionalism in Public Administration and Management.
The African Management Development Institutes' Network (AMDIN) is a network of Development Management Institutes or Schools of Government in Africa. Legally constituted in 2007, this platform allows MDIs to strengthen their capacities and address the respective needs of public servants and governments at all levels. AMDIN was launched as a network through the support of pan-African initiatives of the DPMF, the AU Secretariat and the NEPAD Secretariat.

IIAS is very proud to be back in Subsaharan Africa with its annual conference for the first time since the Yaoundé - Cameroon, conference in 2003. We proudly count Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia and South Africa as our member state countries in the region and wishes to attract more of African countries to contribute towards our shared vision of contributing and shaping the Public Administration worldwide by demonstrating the added-value of the neutral platform for exchanges between public administration practitioners and academics we provide.
In times of crisis, there are two options: fight or flight. It is the former path, courage not fear, action not submission, which IIAS resolutely suggests taking in the contemporary context: overcoming cultural and ideological differences, and engaging in collaborative governance across borders.
Mombasa is the perfect place to discuss this theme. With its port, it has always been a significant node of exchange of goods, thoughts and ideas on the Indian ocean and the world beyond. Kenya is at the vanguard of the African modernization which is underway and will immensely and positively impact the world in the years to come.
