The IIAS Governance Week took place in Brussels from June 12-14, 2023, gathering our esteemed board members from around the world. The event provided a platform for engaging in strategic discussions and making pivotal decisions that will shape the future of the institution. Aligned with our mission to improve public governance research, education, and practice, the Governance Week not only paved the way for progressive internal advancements but also fostered transformative initiatives and established key partnerships.
One of the foremost achievements of the week was the adoption of new statutes for the association by the Council of Administration. These statutes, prompted by legal changes, represent a progressive step towards enhancing the current governance system. They have been submitted to an extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly for final approval, scheduled to take place on October 4th, 2023.
In addition, the IIAS Council of Administration announced that the IIAS 2024 Conference has been granted to the Kenya School of Government (KSG). The conference, slated to be held in Mombasa from February 26-29, will center around the theme of "International Collaborative Governance." This momentous decision also marked the warm welcome of Kenya as an IIAS Member State.
Looking ahead, the IIAS Conference 2025 was granted to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India. The representative institution of India will host the conference in Kochi, Kerala, in February, 2025. This highly anticipated event promises to provide a platform for engaging discussions on pressing governance issues and foster international cooperation.
Furthermore, the IIAS Governance Week welcomed the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo as a National Section member of IIAS. The IIAS General Assembly is expected to confirm this membership in its meeting in October.
Acknowledging the importance of academic research for our institution, a calendar and procedure were established for the appointment of a new Editor-in-Chief for our world-renowned journal, the International Review of Administrative Sciences. This process is set to commence in early 2024, ensuring the continuation of the journal's intellectual rigor and valuable contributions to the public governance field.
Lastly, the audited accounts for the financial year 2022 were approved, along with an updated budget for 2023, underscoring IIAS's commitment to transparency and accountability.
